Mattie is really a book character, first dreamed up for a book my husband is currently writing. We sort of drafted the story line by accident one night while our romance was blossoming.
Mattie is not really my alter-ego, but more like a dear, distant imaginary relative. That mysterious great Aunt you wish you'd been able to know, but who died long before you were born. You have only her photographs and a few worldly possessions to build her story on. I can clearly see her in my mind, know her personality and feel a deep connection with her.
I have the most affinity for the late 1920s and 1930s, but also feel a deep kinship with the Edwardian and late Victorian eras. I've always had an intense love of all things vintage and deep connection to objects with stories and histories. I currently live in a 227 year old home.
That being said, I am also a very modern woman with tattoos. I was once told I am an enigma wrapped in a riddle. I really don't fit neatly into any one category, so you'll see a variety of eras and interests here.
In looking at my vast collection of antique books and magazines, and thinking about my passion for finding interesting objects, I decided to take my passion for all things vintage and share it with the world.
I'll be sharing articles, tips and ephemera from my extensive collection of antique magazines (1900-1939), vintage and antique books, and a few modern sources and favorites. I’ll also share my own artistic adventures with corsets, sewing, handwork, knitting, gardening, cooking and anything else that floats my boat, strikes my fancy or is right up my alley.
I am a 52 year old, wife (married to the love of her life (heading into our five year anniversary), an unlikely and improbable romance story for another day), mother of four, and jack-of-all trades with a passion for history, thrift stores, frugality and handwork. I am currently a stay-at-home mother. I home school my youngest, have two adult children and one special needs child in school. I'm also a full-time student and soon to be graduate student.
